Hypnosis helps to focus your thoughts. Once your focus is secured, your counselor will take you through a standard relaxation exercise. With your eyes closed, you’ll be asked to unwind from head to toe, letting yourself slip down in your chair while your muscles gradually feel more and more at ease. Because you are focusing only on the counselor’s voice, you’ll also pay less attention to any thoughts that could interfere with this relaxation. To help you relax completely, you will be asked to be given an image to follow and focus your attention. You’ll be given a countdown to get you closer and closer to relaxation, and by the time you’ve reached the very bottom, you’ll feel that you’re asleep. During this relaxed state, your counselor will give you a suggestion for the desired change. Before the session ends, the hypnotist will take you back, in reverse order, out of the trance (up and up).
